Shonda Rhimes Rise to Fame Female television and film producers have come a long way in this industry. It wasn’t until recently that female directors and producers have been known to create content under the category of â€Å"intimate dramas.† As such, content involving arm dealers, spies and super naturals have been regarded as unfit categories for female directors and producers. In fact, female directors have made â€Å"rom-coms†, political, violent and traumatic films for years, but because they were made by women, they were in a sense, disregarded or deemed as â€Å"unfit.† Any film or television show produced by, or directed by someone who was not Caucasian, or a male, was more often than not â€Å"labeled arthouse and niche† (Bier par. 1). However, this†¦show more content†¦2). And her power, as everyone has seen, did not come naturally – she had to learn it. In fact, she has always strived to achieve the impossible. After graduating from Dartmouth, she read a New York Times article that claimed, â€Å"getting into U.S.C. film school was harder than getting into Harvard Law,† (Paskin par. 9) which peaked her interest to try it out since it was â€Å"a really competitive thing to do† (Paskin par. 9). While working as a development assistant, Shonda sold a spec script known as Human Seeking Same, which would later put her out there on the map even though it was never produced. As discouraging as this could be, she continued her journey and was later hired to co-write HBO’s Introducing Dorothy Dandridge followed by stable work as a screenwriter. This included writing scripts for Blossoms and Veils (1998), The princess Diaries 2 (2004) and Crossroads (2002). All these brought her success but transitioned to TV since she thought there is more to screenwriting than just â€Å"writing about teenage girls and their makeovers† (Weber par. 10). This decision saw her create one of the greatest ABC TV show, Grey’s Anatomy, which runs to date – at the end of the first season; Grey’s Anatomy had an audience of over twenty million. She has since then followed with great series including Off the Map (canceled), Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder. These movies and TV shows have earned Shonda a huge fan base, especially since most of her characters
